*Please note that Ernestine's is not accepting any student placements at this time due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic!*

We have programs at Ernestine’s that focus on the needs of the busy high school student. There are two programs: the Ambassador Program and the 40 hour Student Program.

The Ambassador Program allows a student to focus on fundraising and awareness building campaigns in their school and community. Students can create a Girls/Boys Club which is proactive in raising awareness on the issue of violence against women and children in their school or community. With the assistance of your teacher, Ernestine’s Coordinator of Volunteer Services we will support your community efforts.

The 40hr Student Program allows students to obtain the 40 hours of community volunteer they must have prior to high school graduation. Volunteer tasks range from sorting items in the donations room, to cleaning toys or helping with homework or the music program for the Child and Youth Program to helping with maintenance and yard work.

Ernestine’s accepts and encourages student placements for their full term. In your email ensure to state that it is a student placement, the school, program, length of time and area of focus you are seeking. Placement students are required to complete anywhere from 100 to 500 hours during their workplace placement. Doing your placement Ernestine’s will provide you with hands-on experience within your school program areas and interact with the women, children, staff and volunteers.

You will be required to have a Learning Contract which will include the goals you want to accomplish during your placement. You will also need to have an interview, reference check, orientation and a current police check. For more information, please contact Khadija Kathy Ali at khadija@ernestines.ca.
