Donate an In-Kind Gift to Ernestine's
Every year at Ernestine’s, there are more than 1,000 visits to the shelter’s food and clothing bank from families that have moved out of the shelter and are still in need of essential services from Ernestine’s. We are always in need of donations because food and clothing items are accessed by our clients on a daily basis.
Families sadly often sacrifice by skipping out on groceries because they need to pay for housing, but a mom should never have to choose between paying the rent and feeding her children. That’s where our food bank comes in – to help these families stretch their small grocery budgets.
When a mother flees an abusive situation, she often does not have time to grab necessary items like a toothbrush, diapers, or a bottle for her child. Often, women and children arrive at Ernestine’s with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. These women deeply rely on the kits and support services accessed through Ernestine’s, which are collected through supporters like you.
We are greatly dependent on the generosity of our community supporters because, without you, we would otherwise be unable to provide our families with much-needed programs and services, including donated items that help them rebuild their lives.
Your gift would make all the difference!
Please contact us if you are able and willing to donate much-needed food or toiletry items to Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter. To make an item donation to Ernestine’s, please email the full details of your donation to Khadija Kathy Ali at email@example.com, to arrange a drop-off. Thank you!
Donation drop-off days: Unfortunately, Ernestine’s does not have the ability to pick up donations; we receive donations every Tuesday and Thursday. Please contact Khadija Kathy Ali (firstname.lastname@example.org) to schedule a drop-off.
Important Notes about In-Kind Gifts
Please note that Ernestine’s only accepts donations of new/unused clothing and undergarments, boots, shoes and toys. We accept gently-used kitchen products and appliances, such as dishes, glasses, cutlery, pots and pans, kettles, toasters, and microwaves. We do not accept donations of used clothing, shoes, or stuffed toys.
Unfortunately, due to a limited amount of storage available at the shelter, we are unable to accept donations of furniture. If you would like to donate furniture please feel free to contact the Furniture Bank
We will provide an in-kind tax receipt for donations where the fair market value can be clearly demonstrated in accordance with CRA policies and guidelines. If you wish to receive a tax receipt for your donation, please ask for one in your email and provide supporting documentation when the items are dropped off.
If you would like a tax receipt for an item that costs less than $1000, you will need to provide purchase receipts or zero balance invoices. If you would like a tax receipt for an item that costs more than $1000, you will require an independent appraisal.
